IQUW promotes Elisabeth Groehe and George Connell to lead Portfolio Solutions

We are delighted to announce the promotion of Elisabeth Groehe and George Connell to lead the firm’s Portfolio Solutions offering.
IQUW Portfolio Solutions, which piloted in 2024, will evolve under Groehe and Connell’s leadership to include both a Specialist Risks and Structured Solutions focus, reflecting IQUW’s commitment to addressing the market’s developing demands. The offering will see the duo engage with brokers globally, taking a portfolio underwriting approach to meet the needs of consortia, MGAs and broker facilities.
Steven Tebbutt, IQUW Active Underwriter commented: “Throughout 2024, we built relationships and partnerships that have enabled us to understand and adapt to new and alternative ways of trading through Lloyd’s. This approach has seen us write business across a diverse range of lines, geographies and distribution channels and empowering Elisabeth and George will help us meet the growing demand for these types of client solutions.”
Groehe has been promoted to Lead Underwriter, Specialist Risk, having spent 3 years as IQUW Senior Underwriter, Professional Lines. Connell has been promoted to Lead Underwriter, Structured Solutions having held the role of Senior Underwriter, Political Violence and War since joining IQUW in 2021.
Groehe commented: “I am delighted to lead the focus on Specialist Risks and build on our Portfolio Solutions experience. We will continue to work alongside brokers and MGAs to refine our proposition and advance our understanding of potential opportunities. Specialist Risk will support brokers, coverholders, and clients who have complex, niche and emerging risks, but currently have limited access to Lloyd’s capacity, providing intelligent underwriting and a service-led approach to risk placement.”
The approach will see IQUW build further partnerships with parties that are seeking high levels of service from empowered underwriters on niche and complex risks.
Connell added: “The focus on Specialist Risk and Structured Solutions is a natural extension of IQUW’s data-driven, client-focused approach. Not only is our team committed to collaborating with coverholders, insurers and brokers to facilitate strategic solutions that deliver long-term value, but we will bring our own insights to create a data driven proposition that provides quick responses to brokers and clients.”
Both roles will report into IQUW’s Head of Specialty, Chris Wilkinson.
IQUW Director of Underwriting, David Morris, added: “I am thrilled to see both Elisabeth and George take on these pivotal roles. Following Robbie McDonald’s recent promotion to Head of Property, the promotion of Elisabeth and George reinforces our commitment to developing internal talent by recognising and empowering our team as we continue to build our proposition as a destination for underwriting, claims and data science professionals eager to shape the future of insurance.”
