IQUW launch new Active Assailant product and crisis response partner

We are proud to announce the launch of a new Active Assailant offering and partnership with Crisis24, a world-leading crisis response specialist.

Active Assailant insurance provides cover for a physical attack carried out by an individual or group who are engaged in causing, or attempting to cause, bodily injury, death or property damage with the use of a weapon, such as a gun, knife, vehicle or drone. This new product differs from traditional Terrorism insurance, which requires proof of political, religious or ideological motives to trigger coverage.

Mass shootings in the US increased by 43% in the decade up until 2023 and Europe has seen a sharp rise in lone actor violent extremism, where motive is often difficult to decipher. Consequently, Active Assailant insurance is becoming more relevant to business’ risk management needs and the financial and emotional protection of their employees and customers.

IQUW’s Active Assailant offering, which is led by Kate Hughes, IQUW Underwriter, Terrorism Political Violence & War, is available to a wide range of occupancies including, but not limited to, commercial and residential properties; religious, health and educational institutions; events; and municipalities. In addition, IQUW’s partnership with Crisis24 provides clients with critical incident response capabilities from the largest team of private sector intelligence analysts in the world.

“Active assailant attacks pose real threats to businesses, particularly in the US, which has seen a dramatic rise in shooter incidents. Many of these events are not covered under All Risk or General Liability policies, leaving businesses vulnerable,” commented Hughes. “IQUW Active Assailant plugs that gap in cover. We have built a probabilistic framework, which utilises historic data to inform our modelling and provides comprehensive cover to suit individual business needs.”

The product launch and partnership supports IQUW’s lead market approach, providing a comprehensive offering that combines data and intelligent underwriting with immediate expert support in the event of an attack.

Dan Callow, IQUW’s Lead Underwriter, Terrorism, Political Violence & War, said: “Combining Crisis24’s knowledge of crisis response services with Kate’s expertise, demonstrates IQUW’s capability to understand where cover gaps might occur and to quickly develop simple solutions to support brokers and their clients.”
